Can I get a bad or fake Google review removed?

Only if it breaks Google's rules or the law. Being unfair or harmful to your business isn't enough.

What will Google remove and what won't it?

Google removes reviews that break its own rules and stays out of disputes between a business and a guest, as its help page on reporting says. An unfair but genuine opinion stays up.

CaseYour chances
Spam, insults, paid-for reviewsGood. The policy bans these outright.
A competitor or former employeePossible. The policy names conflicts of interest, but you have to be able to show how you know.
One star and no textWeak, because there's no content that visibly breaks a rule.
A real guest with a harsh opinionNone. Reply calmly.

How do you report a review properly?

  1. Open your Business Profile, go to your reviews and use the report icon next to the one in question. Pick the reason that actually fits.
  2. Check the status in the Reviews Management Tool. Google says the evaluation typically takes several days.
  3. If it finds no violation, you get one appeal. The result arrives by email.

Offer the guest nothing while this runs. Google explicitly bans giving anything for removing a negative review, and that includes discounts and free drinks.

What if the reviewer was never your guest?

Say exactly that. In 2022, Germany's Federal Court of Justice ruled in a case between a holiday park and a hotel review portal. According to LTO, simply objecting that there was no guest contact generally triggers the portal's duty to check. If the portal doesn't clear it up, the review counts as unlawful.

That case was about a hotel portal, not Google, and whether it carries over depends on the case. You can still raise it through Google's legal reporting form: give the exact address of the review and explain briefly why it's unlawful. In Germany, your chamber of commerce (IHK) can tell you how to go about it. Check your bookings and receipts first, so what you say is true.

What helps if it stays?

A good reply and plenty of new reviews. People who don't know you yet read your reply too. Our article on answering bad reviews shows how it can sound, and how to get more Google reviews covers the second part.

How do more genuine reviews come in faster?

By making sure happy guests don't have to look for the way. With NFCeez it works like this: you add the link to your Google review in the app once, and it sits at the very top of your Smart Page. Guests tap an NFC sticker at the table or scan the QR code and are one more tap away from Google. The app shows how often the review link was tapped. The limit: the page can't delete or report anything, and whether someone writes is up to the guest. So ask every guest the same way. The Smart Page shows what it looks like.

What do you do today?

Your next step: screenshot the review with its date today, and report it if it truly breaks a rule. If it doesn't, reply.
